The artist reveals himself in his art, just as God the Creator reveals himself through His creation, the natural world. Often we can see the shapes and outlines of heavenly beings just by looking at the clouds in the sky. Are they real, or are we seeing a picture with our eyes of what we know from His word to be a living, if invisible reality to the natural eyes? Does He hide himself in plain sight for those with eyes to “see” to “see?” It is always fun when you are painting in the prophetic style to “see” what looks like the heavenly beings mentioned in scripture. These renderings are not representational, but rather an expression of a realm that when truly experienced is prefaced by the words, “Fear not” due to the overwhelming appearance of these beings. We do know that angels minister to the heirs of salvation and that they are messengers or heralds who announce important events. I chose this scripture which is really referring to John the Baptist….but I wanted to highlight the fact that angels, messengers, were sent by God to announce the fullness of time for important prophetic events, such as the birth of Isaac, John the Baptist and Jesus.
“I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come,” says the Lord Almighty.
