Summary
Captivity 3, print offers a lighter, more spacious reading of the original Captivity painting. Cropped into a 2:3 panorama, it lifts the eye into a pale field of structure and mist while a deep charcoal band anchors the lower edge. The result is a calm yet quietly weighty abstraction that suits bedrooms, living rooms, and hospitality spaces shaped by layered neutrals, soft texture, and restrained contrast.
Artwork Statement
For Captivity 3, I returned to the same source painting as the other Captivity editions, but chose a crop that lets the upper field breathe more fully. The pale marks across the top feel like traces that remain—memory, language, structure—while the softer atmosphere beneath them opens into a quieter horizon.
Where some versions of this image hold more tightly to compression and pressure, this one leans toward release. By widening the composition and giving more room to the pale upper band, I wanted the work to feel like a threshold: still marked by sorrow and restraint, yet already turning toward space, light, and the possibility of return.
Color & mood
- Cool near-monochrome palette: soft whites, silvery greys, faint blue-violet haze, and deep charcoal blacks.
- Overall mood: contemplative, spacious, and restrained, with quiet hope rising through the image.
- The lighter upper field gives this edition a more open emotional read than the tighter crops from the same painting.
- Pairs beautifully with white, greige, stone, concrete, weathered wood, and matte black accents.
Design notes
- Landscape orientation in a 2:3 aspect ratio, derived from the 12 x 9 in acrylic-on-paper original.
- The pale upper band carries a script-like lattice of marks that introduces rhythm and memory without becoming literal.
- A soft seam of light moves across the middle of the composition, suggesting a horizon or veil beginning to open.
- The darkest values settle along the lower edge, grounding the image and giving visual weight to the composition.
- Subtle tonal transitions and midtone texture reward close viewing, especially on paper and canvas.
Where it works
- Primary and guest bedrooms where you want calm, monochrome art with emotional and spiritual depth.
- Living rooms or reading corners styled with soft neutrals, layered textiles, and quiet contrast.
- Home offices and studios that need a thoughtful focal point without bright color distraction.
- Hospitality spaces—boutique hotel suites, spa lounges, or executive waiting areas—with a refined, contemplative atmosphere.
Pairing ideas
- Pair with Golden Opportunity, print to place the dark field of restraint beside a narrow opening of light, access, and possibility.
- Hang alongside Pearl 3, print for a quieter conversation about guarded passage, stillness, and radiance.
- For a more overtly faith-forward wall, add Golgotha, print to introduce vertical gravity and theological contrast in scale.

Print options & materials
- Fine Art Paper (Framed or Unframed) — Museum-grade, archival paper with a smooth matte surface and pigment-based inks. Ideal for custom framing and especially good for the subtle tonal transitions in this image.
- Gallery-Wrapped Canvas — Printed on premium canvas and hand-stretched over solid wood bars. A softly textured, ready-to-hang presentation that suits modern and transitional interiors.
- Metal Prints — The image is infused directly into a lightweight aluminum panel for sleek, frameless display and crisp detail. A strong choice for contemporary rooms and humidity-prone spaces.
- Acrylic Glass Prints — Face-mounted behind polished acrylic for luminous depth and a refined, gallery-style finish. Ideal when you want the work to feel especially polished and architectural.
Bathroom suitability
Captivity 3, print can work beautifully in a spa-like bathroom or ensuite when you choose moisture-aware formats. Metal and acrylic are best for regular humidity, while framed paper and canvas work well in well-ventilated rooms away from direct steam.
Sizing guidance
- Aspect ratio: 2:3
- Available sizes: 24 x 16 in, 30 x 20 in, 36 x 24 in
- Placement tip: artwork width ≈ 60–75% of furniture width; center at ~57–60 in
Quality & care
- Each print is made to order using archival inks and professional substrates, produced in North America.
- Color and tonal balance are calibrated to honor the original acrylic-on-paper painting while preserving the quiet openness of this panoramic crop.
- Display out of prolonged, direct sunlight to preserve depth and nuance over time.
- For metal and acrylic, dust gently with a soft, non-abrasive cloth; avoid harsh cleaners on acrylic surfaces.
- For framed paper and canvas, allow a small gap between the artwork and any heat sources such as radiators or fireplaces.
Integrity notes
Captivity 3, print is an open edition fine art print derived from my 2018 acrylic-on-paper original Captivity. This edition uses a 2:3 crop of the same photographed painting to emphasize the lighter upper field and wider atmospheric spread; the painted imagery itself has not been altered or digitally repainted.
Aside from standard photographic adjustments such as removing the paper border, correcting glare, refining contrast, and adding my small signature at the lower edge, what you see in this print is a faithful representation of the original work in this cropped format. It belongs to the same image family as Captivity, print and Captivity 2, print, all rooted in the same painting.
