Five-minute interview from RAW Toronto Artshow featuring Toronto the Good (nicknamed “Toronto on Fire”). We discuss process, color, and how light and movement can reframe a city’s story — and invite hope.
Watch the 5-minute interview, see booth highlights, and discover the story behind Toronto the Good.
The conversation centers on Toronto the Good — a prophetic abstract the host calls “Toronto on Fire.” We explore how color, light, and movement transform perception, turning a complicated reputation toward a vision of renewal.
Prior to RAW, the original painting had already found its home with Bryn S. Elliott. At the show I exhibited a fine art print of the piece, carrying the same story into the event. Bryn’s journey from trauma and loss into resilience (shared in her book Dying to Live) mirrors the transformation embodied in the work.

RAW Toronto Interview with Anne Reid Artist
Host (DK the Artist): Welcome back, we’re talking with another artist at RAW Artists Canada in Toronto. Who are you?
Anne Reid Artist: I am Anne Reid Artist.
Host: Love your energy!
Anne: I’m excited to be here. This is a fantastic show and every artist in Toronto needs to be part of it. The vibe is amazing — and this is just the artists before the audience even arrives. There’s such a good mix of ages and great conversations happening.
Host: Now, talk to me about this — Toronto on Fire.
Anne: It’s actually called Toronto the Good. I’m an abstract inspirational artist working in acrylics. I start every painting in abstraction until the imagery reveals itself. With this one, the skyline of Toronto emerged.
The story came later, when I exhibited the piece in a corporate art show in Don Mills. A young woman kept coming in daily to see it. Her sister had been murdered; she had been raped, abused, struggled with addiction, and she couldn’t imagine anything “good” about Toronto. Yet this painting became a turning point for her.
I gave her the original as a gift. She later wrote a book. So the painting was a gift to her, and her story became a gift to me. That’s what my art is about — encouraging people and connecting with them through messages of hope.
Host: That’s amazing. How can people follow you or purchase your work?
Anne: You can find me on Instagram at @annereidartist or visit my website annereidartist.com.
The large display ran a rotating slideshow of artworks, in-room mockups, and story panels — seed for a forthcoming streaming app concept. For collaboration inquiries: info@annereidartist.com.
