Summary
Beginning 2, print is an artist-directed color-variant edition by Anne Reid Artist — the same vertical composition as the original painting Beginning, transformed from deep pre-dawn navy into vivid cyan and electric turquoise. Where the original holds the darkness of Genesis 1:2, this edition carries the light of Genesis 1:3: and God said, let there be light. Available on archival paper, canvas, metal, and acrylic.
Artwork Statement
I painted Beginning in the dark — deep navy, barely a glow, the Spirit hovering over formless waters. When I prepared the color-variant edition, I shifted the palette toward vivid cyan and turquoise: the same void, the same arc of water in the mid-field, the same composition — but the light has arrived. The two versions are the same moment in two states. Genesis 1:2 and Genesis 1:3. Darkness, then light. Both true. Both necessary.
Variation & Edition Notes
Beginning 2, print is an Artist-Directed Color-Variant Edition of the original painting Beginning (2017, acrylic on canvas, 24 × 36 in). The composition is identical — same arc, same luminous upper form, same sweeping lower field. The palette has been shifted from the original's deep navy and restrained aqua-teal toward vivid cyan, electric turquoise, and brilliant white at the light source. The original painting is itself an underpainting state of the larger Genesis painting; this print edition therefore carries a dual lineage: a color variant of an underpainting. No compositing; no AI-generated content.
Color & Mood
- Vivid cyan and electric turquoise dominate — the palette of creation-light rather than pre-creation dark
- A brilliant white core at the upper-centre radiates outward into intense turquoise; the lower field is cobalt and royal blue with strong cyan notes
- Canvas texture fully visible throughout — the brushwork and weave are part of the visual experience
- A faint arc crosses the mid-field, catching turquoise light — reads as a waterline or horizon
- Bold and luminous — more energetic and vivid than the original; suited to spaces that can hold strong color
Design Notes
- Vertical format (2:3) — the upward movement of the luminous form suits tall walls, narrow spaces, and corridor focal points
- The vivid cyan-turquoise palette is striking against white, grey, and warm neutral walls
- Works beautifully with natural materials — linen, timber, stone — where the electric blue provides contrast without coldness
- Strong enough to anchor a room alone; composed enough to pair in a gallery arrangement
Where It Works
- Living rooms and dining rooms where a bold, vivid focal piece is wanted
- Prayer rooms and contemplative spaces — the Genesis 1 resonance is strong and immediate
- Bedrooms and reading corners where the turquoise palette creates a cool, enlivening presence
- Hospitality, wellness, and spa interiors — the vivid aqua reads as water, depth, and refreshment
- Hallways and entries — the vertical format and strong color command a narrow wall with authority
Pairing Ideas
- Third Day, print — Genesis 1:9 companion; the water-and-light theme continues from day one to day three
- Advent 7, print — square cool counterpoint in the same blue-teal family; the spiral adds calm rhythm
- Angelic, print — vertical companion in the same airy aqua register; the two work as a quiet flanking pair

Print Options & Materials
- Archival paper — giclée; frame under UV-protective glazing; the vivid cyan reads beautifully on paper
- Canvas — gallery-wrapped; ready to hang; the canvas texture complements the visible brushwork of the original closely
- Metal (ChromaLuxe) — the electric turquoise and brilliant white core intensify on metal; humidity-friendly
- Acrylic facemount — glass-like depth and brilliant clarity; the vivid palette is particularly striking behind acrylic
Bathroom Suitability
Metal or acrylic facemount for humid bathrooms — both moisture-resistant and wipe-clean. The vivid aqua palette makes this print a natural choice for spa-like bathroom environments. Glazed archival paper suits dry powder rooms. Canvas not recommended for high-humidity bathrooms.

Notes from the Studio
The original Beginning is the underpainting state of the Genesis painting — it holds the darkness before light arrived. Beginning 2 is the same composition in the moment after. Both versions are available as prints; the original painting is in the studio if you are interested.
