I began Deluge in 2017 in a community studio in Oakville, working with an unexpected jar of vivid blue acrylic paint left behind by another artist. The painting came quickly — sweeping blue movement over green. The word that arrived with it was Deluge: the Genesis flood, the opened floodgates, the covering waters. Years later the painting opened further through Malachi 3:10, and what had carried the weight of judgment resolved into something else entirely — a prophetic image of God pouring out blessing beyond what can be contained.

Deluge, print is an open-edition fine art print by Anne Reid Artist — a fast-moving blue and green abstract rooted in the biblical image of opened floodgates. I began Deluge in a shared community studio in Oakville in 2017. Another artist was leaving and had set out jars of acrylic paint for the rest of us — among them a large jar of strong blue, likely cobalt. It became the primary color of this painting. The work came quickly: blue sweeping across the surface with force and flow, moving over the green beneath it.
As the image developed, it brought to mind the biblical flood — the floodgates of heaven opened, the waters covering the earth, and the full weight of the Genesis account. At first that made the painting difficult to share. New Testament prophetic practice is meant to strengthen, encourage, and comfort, and the word Deluge carried judgment.
Years later the painting's meaning opened further. In charismatic Christian language, overwhelming water also suggests the outpouring of the Holy Spirit — a wave of glory, refreshing, power, and the movement of God. And then the meaning resolved through Malachi 3:10 — the promise that God will open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to contain it (Malachi 3:10, NIV). The same image — the same opened floodgates — became a promise of abundance rather than destruction. Deluge is not only a warning-image. It is a prophetic image of overflowing blessing, provision, and increase: God pouring out more than can be held.

The painting also became connected to the art practice itself — a promise that the work entrusted to me would not remain small, hidden, or barren, but would receive the provision and overflow of God in its appointed time. That is still what Deluge holds for me: the floodgates open, and what comes through is blessing.
