Summary
Evan Roberts Sat Here 2 is an open edition fine art print by Anne Reid Artist depicting a wooden chair in shadow with an open hymn book resting in warm light. Rooted in the legacy of Evan Roberts and the Welsh Revival, this contemplative work centers on intercession, inheritance, and the enduring presence of those who prayed before us. A chair holds more than its occupant — it holds every prayer ever made there. Available on fine art paper, canvas, metal, and acrylic.
Artwork Statement
In September 2016, I attended a gathering in St. Thomas, Ontario — a meeting of intercessors from across southwestern Ontario who had been contending for revival in their region and in Canada for years, largely unknown, paying a high personal price. Just before the meeting began, Apostle Tim Sheets received a word about revival in Canada similar to the Welsh Revival. When the group arrived at the venue, the first thing they were shown was an actual wooden chair from Wales — more than a hundred years old — from a revival that had shaken a nation.
I had the privilege of kneeling before that chair and adding my prayers to the countless others that had been made there across a century. That experience became this painting. The chair is unoccupied — but presence is felt. The open hymn book is my painted rendition of Here Is Love, the great love song of the Welsh Revival. No figure sits in the chair. The figure is the one looking at it.
This painting is dedicated to the memory of Carys Montgomery, on what was the first birthday after her graduation to glory. Carys is the Welsh word for love or grace. She had a beautiful voice. Her ashes were released in the grounds of St. David's Cathedral in Pembrokeshire, Wales — where Christianity first came to that nation. I believe the prayers sown in faith for Carys will result in a greater harvest for others, and that she was among the great cloud of witnesses present that evening in St. Thomas.
Color & Mood
- Deep evergreen and charcoal shadows — hush, reverence, and the weight of history
- Amber and warm umber tones — lamp-light warmth in a sanctuary
- Illuminated pages as the focal point — revelation held open, waiting to be read
- Overall mood: still, watchful, weighted with prayer, and quietly expectant
Design Notes
- Centered composition that reads clearly from across a room
- Strong contrast: deep shadow frames the chair and the open pages
- Intentional absence — no figure present, yet presence is unmistakably felt
- Vertical 2:3 format suited to tall walls, hallways, and focal-point placement
Where It Works
- Prayer rooms, studies, libraries, and quiet reading corners
- Church spaces — pastoral offices, counseling rooms, lobby alcoves
- Minimal interiors where one warm, contemplative focal point anchors the room
- Hallways and transitional spaces where the vertical format adds quiet presence

Quality & Care
Printed using professional fine art processes with color management to preserve the tonal depth and warmth of the original. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight for optimal longevity. For framed paper prints, UV-protective glazing is recommended. Dust metal or acrylic surfaces with a soft, dry microfiber cloth — no abrasive cleaners.
Shipping & Fulfillment
Orders are produced to order and shipped by my professional print lab partner in the United States. Production and transit times vary by size and finish; tracking is provided when your artwork ships. International orders may be subject to local duties, taxes, or import fees at delivery.
Integrity Notes
This print is prepared from the original painting Evan Roberts Sat Here, acrylic and mixed media on canvas, 24 × 36 in. The open hymn book depicted in the painting is a painted element — not a photographic reproduction of a specific artefact. It is my rendition of the hymn Here Is Love, the love song of the Welsh Revival, included as a symbolic and devotional element of the composition. Minor digital refinements were made for print clarity and tonal balance. No artificial intelligence was used in the creation or preparation of this artwork.

Notes from the Studio
This painting is dedicated to the memory of Carys Montgomery — whose name in Welsh means love or grace — on the first anniversary of her going home. The painting was completed in October 2016 and carries, for me, the conviction that the prayers of those who have gone before us are not lost. They are seeds.
For those interested in the history behind this work: the meeting in St. Thomas, Ontario, took place in September 2016, the Hebrew year 5777. The gathering began at 5:55 pm. The presence of the Welsh Revival chair was unplanned — a confirmation, as those present understood it, of the word received that evening about revival coming to Canada.
