Summary
Great Cloud of Witnesses 5, print is a landscape open-edition fine art print by Anne Reid Artist, based on the 2016 original painting Great Cloud of Witnesses and released as a print edition in 2026. This edition crops to the warmest, most luminous passage of the original composition — the figures gathered around the moment of incarnation — bringing warm gold, rose-pink, magenta, and yellow into a concentrated and theologically rich wall-art image. The original painting, gifted by the artist circa 2016, records the full biblical procession; this edition focuses on its fulfillment.
Artwork Statement
I started Great Cloud of Witnesses the way I often begin — abstractly, with color, movement, and the process of looking to see what was forming on the canvas. As I worked, I began to see many figures.
Over time, I understood the painting as being about the great cloud of witnesses — the people in the biblical story who were part of God’s unfolding plan and who all, in one way or another, point to Jesus. On the right side of the composition, I see Mary and Joseph looking toward Jesus in the manger. Behind them is a figure with a purple sash. To me, that figure represents a government angel — connected to the Scripture in Isaiah where it says that the government will be upon the shoulders of Messiah, and of the increase of His government there will be no end.
The other figures feel like witnesses from the Old and New Testament story. I don’t think every figure needs to be named, but they suggest people like Adam, David, Moses, Ruth, Esther, the patriarchs, and others who were part of the story leading to Christ. The clouds suggest the heavenly realm, and the gold speaks of glory. I see the whole painting almost like the balcony of heaven, where the witnesses are looking down on the moment when the Word became flesh — seeing the fulfillment of what God had promised.
And we, as viewers, are also looking at that moment. We are outside the scene, but we are invited to witness it too.
Color & Mood
- Warm gold fills the atmosphere with a sense of glory, divine presence, and holy light.
- Rose-pink and magenta carry emotional warmth, tenderness, and the intimacy of the incarnation — heaven drawing near to earth.
- Luminous yellow, concentrated at the center of the figure grouping, speaks of the Christ child, the light of the world, and fulfillment.
- Deep violet and dark purple outlines give the figures weight, authority, and a sense of prophetic gravity.
- The overall mood is reverent, luminous, and quietly celebratory — the atmosphere of heaven beholding a holy moment.
Design Notes
- This print crops to the right-side focal passage of the original composition, where the atmosphere shifts from the cooler history and procession of the left side into the warm gold and rose of fulfillment and incarnation.
- The figures are simplified and symbolic rather than portrait-like — elongated, robed, and faceless, giving them an almost iconographic witness presence.
- Dark navy and violet outlines define the figures and create a sense of gathering, attention, and sacred orientation.
- The horizontal format and the figure grouping create a natural compositional rhythm that reads well across a wide wall, above a bed, or in any space where the image can breathe.
- The warm palette sits comfortably against pale neutrals, blush, cream, and warm-white interiors.

Pairing Ideas
- For a closely related work in the same robed-figure and gathered-witness family, pair with Friend of the Bridegroom, print — warm violet, magenta, and relational presence in a similar figure language.
- For a companion that tells the journey side of the story — figures moving together toward the light — pair with Wilderness 9, print. Cool cobalt and teal against the warm gold of this edition creates a natural diptych: pilgrimage and arrival.
- For the deepest theological companion — witnesses standing at the foot of the cross as these witnesses stand at the moment of incarnation — pair with Golgotha 3, print.
- For a warm gold and rose palette companion with a strong sense of descending holy light, pair with Joy of the Lord, print.

Print Options & Materials
- Paper for a classic fine art presentation behind glass.
- Canvas for painterly depth and a softer wall presence that honors the painting’s origins.
- Metal for luminous, saturated color and a bold contemporary statement — especially strong at larger sizes.
- Acrylic for depth, clarity, and a polished modern finish that intensifies the color field.
Bathroom Suitability
For humid bathrooms and spa-style spaces, Metal or Acrylic are the strongest choices. Framed paper works well in dry, ventilated bathrooms with glazing.

Integrity Notes
This is an open-edition print based on the 2016 original painting Great Cloud of Witnesses, acrylic on canvas, 20×16 in, gifted by the artist circa 2016. The original painting was cool-palette dominant — figures in blue, teal, navy, and green across a full landscape composition beneath a teal and gold sky. In preparing this print edition, the full composition was put through an artist-directed digital color transformation that shifted the palette toward warm gold, violet-purple, and magenta, followed by a digital perspective adjustment to the full transformed composition. The 2026 print edition then crops to the right-side focal passage of the adjusted composition — the warmest and most luminous passage, where the figures gather around the moment of incarnation. The figures themselves come from the original human-made painting; the color transformation, perspective adjustment, and crop are the material changes from the source work.

Notes from the Studio
I see this painting almost like the balcony of heaven — the witnesses of Scripture looking down on the moment when the Word became flesh. Every figure in the biblical story, every act of faith, every prophetic word and covenant promise, was pointing toward this. Great Cloud of Witnesses is about the whole story of Scripture gathering around Jesus Messiah.
The crop that became this print edition focuses on the fulfillment end of that story: the gold of glory, the figures gathered around the incarnation, and the sense that heaven is present and attending to what God is doing on earth. For me that is still the heart of it — history, prophecy, and promise all looking toward Him.
