Summary
Oil Lamps is a landscape open-edition fine art print by Anne Reid Artist, prepared from the 2016 original acrylic on canvas painting of the same name. Steady warm light glows within vessels against a deep indigo and charcoal field — evoking watchfulness, readiness, and sustained presence. The work suits bedrooms, living rooms, studies, prayer spaces, and any interior that calls for warmth, depth, and contemplative quiet.
Artwork Statement
I painted Oil Lamps with the sense of provision already made. The lamps are not being lit in a rush; they are already burning. This work reflects the discipline of remaining attentive — tending what has been entrusted rather than striving for more.
The surrounding darkness is not threatening. It is simply the context in which light proves faithful.
For me, this painting represents the church at the end of the age — a community of worshippers, worshiping the King in spirit and in truth. Keeping their lamps full of oil in eager anticipation for the coming of the Bridegroom.
Color & Mood
- Deep indigo and charcoal tones establish stillness and depth.
- Warm gold and amber light suggest nourishment, presence, and continuity.
- Soft transitions prevent harsh contrast, keeping the work meditative rather than dramatic.
- The overall mood is steady, contemplative, and grounded.
Design Notes
- Horizontal orientation creates rest and visual stability across a wall.
- The central glow acts as a quiet anchor rather than a dramatic focal point.
- Negative space allows the light to breathe and the darkness to remain present without heaviness.
- Pairs naturally with warm woods, linen textures, dark walls, and neutral palettes.
Where It Works
- Bedrooms, where calm and attentiveness belong together.
- Living rooms that favor warmth over visual noise.
- Studies and offices requiring sustained focus and quiet presence.
- Prayer and reflection spaces that value stillness and faithful light.
- Hospitality suites and retreat interiors with warm, contemplative palettes.

Print Options & Materials
- Paper for a classic fine art presentation behind glass.
- Canvas for a soft, low-glare surface with painterly presence.
- Metal for a modern, luminous finish with strong durability.
- Acrylic for depth, clarity, and a polished contemporary edge.
Bathroom Suitability
For humid bathrooms and spa-style spaces, Metal or Acrylic are the strongest choices. Paper prints should be fully framed with glazing and placed only in well-ventilated bathrooms.
Available sizes, media, framing, finishing, and greeting-card options appear in the product dropdown menu above; for more help choosing medium, framing, finishing, size, or placement, visit my Sizing & Placement Advice page.
Sizing Guidance

- 12×8 — shelves, desks, bedside tables, and small contemplative displays.
- 24×16 — above a console, sideboard, or dresser; strong in bedrooms and studies.
- 34×22 — a confident living room or office size; works well above a sofa or in a reading corner.
- 38×25 — a large-format statement piece for feature walls and wider architectural settings.
As a general guide, artwork width should be approximately 60–75% of the furniture beneath it, and center height around 57–60 inches from the floor. Visit my Sizing & Placement Advice page for more guidance.
Quality & Care
Each print is produced to archival standards for long-term color stability. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight. Wipe metal or acrylic surfaces gently with a microfiber cloth. Dust canvas lightly with a soft dry cloth. For paper prints, choose protective glazing where possible.

Integrity Notes
This open-edition print is prepared from Anne Reid Artist’s 2016 original acrylic on canvas painting Oil Lamps, 36×24 in. The original remains in the artist’s private collection and is not for sale. The warm glow visible to the right of the lamp in the print image was produced by natural sunlight during an early-morning outdoor photography session at the lake. Anne chose to use this image because of that light — she describes it as a “God kiss.” No digital compositing, AI generation, or synthetic light was added. The photograph has been color-managed and prepared for print with standard reproduction adjustments only.

Notes from the Studio
I took Oil Lamps to the lake early one morning to photograph it. The sun hit the canvas in such a way that it added an extra glow to the right of the lamp — and enhanced the light across the whole painting. I loved the effect so much that I chose to use that image. I saw it as a gift.
“God’s kingdom is like ten young virgins who took oil lamps and went out to greet the bridegroom. Five were silly and five were smart… So stay alert. You have no idea when he might arrive.”
Matthew 25:1–13, The Message
Pairing Ideas
- Angel Armies, print — to emphasize protection, strength, and the assurance of heavenly presence alongside the watchful light of Oil Lamps.
- Dove, print — to reinforce peace, gentleness, and the sustaining work of the Spirit.
- Community, print — for a relational counterpoint — light tended not in isolation, but together.
