I painted Presence as a quiet witness of God meeting us in stillness. The flame is small, but it does not disappear; it holds its place against the darkness and becomes the point from which the whole image reads.
The cross-like form is not forced or theatrical. It emerges through atmosphere, reflection, and restraint, so the work feels less like illustration and more like encounter. I wanted the painting to carry prayer, nearness, and the kind of calm that steadies a room.
Palette: warm yellow flame, dark blue-black, orange, gray-violet. Mood: contemplative, prayerful, steadying, inward. The image reads as a strong focal point of light from across the room, with layered atmosphere and softer transitions revealed up close.
The small flame and the descending veil create a centered vertical axis that holds the composition quietly upright. Water, reflection, and a cross-like form work together without collapsing into literal illustration. The image relies on concentration rather than spectacle, which gives it staying power in a room, and the contained glow makes it especially effective where a calm focal point is needed.
Prayer corners, studies, bedrooms, and reading spaces are natural placements for this print. I return often to the language of light in dark fields. With Presence, I wanted that light to remain intimate rather than overwhelming, so the work would hold a room with steadiness, reverence, and peace.
