Summary
Yellow Wood is a large-scale abstract work by Anne Reid Artist built around vertical birch forms, a central inward pathway, and a warm autumn palette. Refined over time from an early commission, the painting reached its final form as an architectural-presence piece — installed in a cathedral-ceiling timber home in Muskoka, Ontario, where its structure and scale became part of the room's spatial rhythm. Available as an open edition fine art print on paper, canvas, metal, and acrylic.
Artwork Statement
I painted Yellow Wood with scale, structure, and atmosphere as the governing forces. The vertical birch forms are not decorative — they carry the composition the way timber beams carry a room: with discipline, rhythm, and enough space between them to let the eye move. The central pathway is the painting's quiet directive — drawing the viewer inward, through, and beyond. As a colorist, my instinct is boldness, but this work required restraint. The autumn palette warms without overwhelming. The composition holds its place. Rooted in the promises of Genesis 15, Isaiah 48, and Jeremiah 31, Yellow Wood speaks to the faithfulness of God across time — a path made sure, a covenant held, a way that does not run dry.
Color & Mood
- Warm autumn tones — gold, amber, and yellow ochre — against open vertical structure
- Central pathway lit to draw the eye inward through the composition
- Negative space that allows architecture and room to breathe alongside the work
- A tone of quiet conviction — settled, unhurried, and spatially assured
Design Notes
- Vertical composition that echoes timber beams and architectural upright structures
- Central pathway creates depth and inward movement rather than a fixed focal point
- Scale-forward design: reads with increasing presence and authority as size increases
- Painterly edges preserve the hand of the original at all offered sizes
Where It Works
- Cathedral-ceiling and timber-frame homes where vertical scale and structure are primary
- Open-concept living and dining spaces requiring a work with architectural presence
- Stairwells, double-height entries, and large vertical feature walls
- Designer and hospitality interiors with natural material palettes — wood, stone, linen
- Any space where warmth, depth, and quiet authority are the brief
