Summary
The Apple, print is a mixed-media inspired fine art print from The Israel Series, depicting a vast blue cosmic eye based on a NASA photograph of the Helix Nebula, often called the “Eye of God.” At the center, a Star of David rests in the pupil as a visual meditation on scriptures that describe Israel as the apple of God’s eye (Deuteronomy 32:10; Zechariah 2:8). This open edition work blends astronomy, covenant symbolism, and abstract color into a contemplative focal point for faith-forward and design-conscious interiors.
Artwork Statement
In The Apple, print I set out to paint the Helix Nebula as faithfully as I could from a reference photograph, receiving it as more than an astronomical curiosity — as a picture of the “Eye of God.” While I worked, I prayed the scriptures that call Israel the apple of God’s eye, and those verses became the interpretive key for the whole piece.
At the very center I embedded a hand-cut Star of David in gel medium, then painted over it so it sits as a quiet, dimensional seal in the pupil. The blue “iris” draws you inward, ringed by fiery oranges, greens, and violets that suggest both nebula and eyelid. Spattered stars drift across the surrounding darkness, hinting at galaxies beyond the frame. This is a work about being seen — Israel seen by God, and every viewer invited into that same unblinking, protective gaze.
Color & Mood
- Radiant cobalt, turquoise, and indigo radiating from the center like a living iris.
- Rim of orange, gold, and violet echoing nebula gases and covenant fire.
- Soft greens at the edge where cool revelation meets warming flame.
- Deep black surrounding space that keeps the composition grounded and contemplative.
- Atmosphere: awe-struck, intercessory, watchful — a sense of being held in the gaze of God.
Design Notes
- Horizontal 4:3 composition that reads as a single commanding “eye” on the wall, ideal over sofas, consoles, or credenzas.
- Original is mixed media: acrylic and gel medium on canvas, 30 x 40 in (2017); the central Star of David is a hand-cut element embedded in gel and painted over for subtle relief.
- This open edition fine art print is an enhanced rendition of the original — color-balanced and cleaned for print while staying faithful to the composition and symbolism.
- Perfect as a solo statement piece, or as the “anchor” image in a small Israel-focused gallery wall.
- Best hung so the Star of David sits close to eye level, emphasizing the sensation of a gaze meeting the viewer.
Where It Works
- Prayer corners, study spaces, and home offices where you want a constant reminder of God’s watchful care.
- Living rooms and great rooms that can handle a strong focal point with rich blues and ember tones.
- Hospitality lobbies, conference rooms, and chapel foyers seeking art that honors Israel while still feeling contemporary and abstract.
- Gallery walls alongside maps, photography, or other works from The Israel Series for a narrative about covenant and calling.
Pairing Ideas
- For a trumpet-and-covenant story, pair with Herald 5, print , placing The Apple, print as the watching eye and Herald 5, print as the messenger in motion.
- To emphasize the bridge between nations, add Herald 117, print , the blended work that weaves this nebula with the herald figure in a single composition.
- For a “Seed and Eye” pairing, consider Seed of the Woman, print , placing the seed motif opposite the cosmic eye as a visual dialogue about promise and fulfillment.

Print Options & Materials
- Smooth fine art paper — archival, 100% cotton, matte surface that holds the deep blues and star field with velvety detail.
- Canvas gallery wraps — ready-to-hang, with the nebula color wrapping softly around the edges for a painterly, object-like presence.
- Metal prints — high-gloss or satin surface that makes the celestial color and star bursts feel luminous and otherworldly.
- Acrylic mounts — sleek, contemporary presentation that enhances depth in the central “eye” and nebula ring.
Bathroom Suitability
For well-ventilated bathrooms or spa-like ensuites, choose Metal or Acrylic for best humidity resistance. Avoid paper and canvas in small, steamy spaces unless framed behind glass and kept away from direct moisture.
Sizing Guidance (4:3 aspect — exact to this page)
- 12 x 9 in — ideal for a prayer nook, desk area, or layered gallery wall.
- 16 x 12 in and 20 x 15 in — strong singles over a writing desk, console, or small sideboard.
- 24 x 18 in and 28 x 21 in — excellent over a loveseat or in a foyer where you want a clear focal point.
- 32 x 24 in — statement scale over a full-size sofa, credenza, or in a hospitality lobby.
- As a simple rule of thumb, aim for artwork that is about 60–75% of the furniture width beneath it, and center the Star of David around 57–60 in from the floor for comfortable viewing.
Quality & Care
- Printed with archival inks and materials designed for long-lasting color and clarity.
- Handle unframed prints by the edges and keep fingers off the image area to avoid smudges.
- Display out of direct, harsh sunlight when possible to preserve the depth of the blues and nebula tones.
- Dust canvas, metal, and acrylic surfaces gently with a soft, dry cloth; avoid household cleaners and abrasives.
- For framed paper prints, use UV-protective glazing and ensure the frame is sealed and hung away from moisture.
Collector Reflections
A star cut by hand,
pressed into the pupil of space,
refusing to be forgotten.
Blue upon blue, the gaze widens,
holding a nation in its center,
holding the watcher, too.
Light circles the dark core,
fire brushing the edges of the void,
saying, “You are seen.”
Key scriptures that shaped this piece include Deuteronomy 32:10 and Zechariah 2:8, where the Lord calls Israel the apple of His eye.
