Summary
Cleft 2 is a prophetic fine art print by Anne Reid Artist, reproduced from the original acrylic painting. Vertical abstract forms rise through a luminous field of amber, gold, and fire—a composition rooted in the biblical image of being hidden in the cleft of the rock while the glory of God passes by. Available in multiple sizes and media, with the largest format offered as a Metal Print.
Artwork Statement
The title comes from the story of Moses asking the Lord to show him His glory. God hides Moses in the cleft of the rock and covers him with His hand while His goodness passes by—because no one can see the fullness of God and live. That passage has always carried a sense of awe for me: the desire to see God’s glory, and the mercy of being hidden while His goodness passes by.
In the image, there is a small figure standing within the darker vertical structures. She is tucked into the cleft. The structures are abstract and almost architectural, but they also suggest a hiding place—the secret place with God. She is hidden, but she is also looking out.
The colors around her are like a rainbow. To me, that is the heart of the piece. God is light, and refracted light is color. My mentor preached on the opening of Genesis—that the first light God spoke was not merely illumination, because the sun, moon, and stars are created later. That first light was the glory of God. All the wavelengths of color and sound are in Him and flow out of Him. That understanding has shaped the way I see color in my work, and it is present throughout Cleft 2.
The cleft also carries a second meaning for me: the wound in the side of Christ on the cross, when the soldier pierced His side and blood and water flowed out. For the believer, the cleft is not only the rock where Moses was hidden—it is also the place in Christ where we are hidden in Him. We are not merely sheltered near God. We are hidden in Him.
Then Moses said, “Now show me your glory.”… “There is a place near me where you may stand on a rock. When my glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft in the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by.”
— Exodus 33:18, 21–22 (NIV)
Color & Mood
- Dominant warm field: luminous amber, gold, and yellow
- Fire field: deep orange and red to the right of center
- Structural accents: dark black verticals and deep teal
- Ground band: restrained green
- Mood: hiddenness, glory, threshold, quiet awe, the secret place
Design Notes
- Landscape orientation with strong vertical interior forms
- Architectural composition—reads as spatial structure rather than landscape or figure
- The small figure is present but not immediately dominant—the image rewards sustained looking
- High-contrast vertical elements anchor a luminous warm ground
- The bold, saturated color field responds with particular intensity to metal as a substrate
Where It Works
- Prayer rooms, contemplative spaces, and private chapels where the theme of hiddenness and glory is directly relevant
- Home offices, studies, and reading rooms where a work of presence and depth anchors the space
- Professional offices, boardrooms, and executive interiors where artwork must carry presence without visual noise
- Lobbies, corridors, and reception areas—the vertical forms and luminous field read well at distance and scale
- Hospitality environments and institutional spaces with architectural material palettes

Cleft 2, fine art print — shown in a public architectural setting. Example shown at 45 in high × 60 in long for scale. Recommended medium: Metal Print.
Pairing Ideas
- Zebulun, print — complementary directional energy and architectural clarity, particularly effective when both are presented in metal.
- Valley of Decision 2, print — a thematic partner that amplifies the sense of threshold, gathering, and forward movement.
Print Options & Materials
- Paper for a classic fine art presentation behind glass.
- Canvas for painterly depth and a softer wall presence that honors the painting’s origins.
- Metal for luminous, saturated color and a bold contemporary statement—especially strong at larger sizes. The luminous amber and gold field in Cleft 2 intensifies on metal in a way that is particularly suited to this image; metal was the medium in which this print was first publicly shown.
- Acrylic for depth, clarity, and a polished modern finish that intensifies the color field.

Quality & Care
Fine art prints are produced using archival pigment inks on premium substrates. Paper and canvas prints should be kept out of direct sunlight and high-humidity environments; framing behind UV-protective glass extends longevity. Metal and acrylic prints require no framing and can be wiped clean with a soft, dry cloth. All prints are inspected for color accuracy and finish quality before shipment.
Shipping & Fulfillment
Orders are produced to order and shipped by my professional print lab partner in the United States. Production and transit times vary by size and finish; tracking is provided when your artwork ships. International orders may be subject to local duties, taxes, or import fees at delivery.
Integrity Notes
Cleft 2 is reproduced from the original acrylic painting. In preparing the print edition, I smoothed the background digitally and shifted the gold toward a more luminous yellow, brightening the other colors slightly while preserving the essential structure of the original. The original painting and the print are related but distinct forms: the acrylic on canvas is one form; the digitally prepared print file is another; the metal print is another again, because the substrate, light, surface, and finish all participate in the final experience of the work. No AI tools were used in the creation of the artwork or the preparation of the print edition. The original painting is handmade. The print preparation is my own artistic development of the image.

Notes from the Studio
Open Edition Fine Art Print from the original painting (Cleft 2, acrylic on canvas). Cleft 2 was among the first works I had produced on metal and showed publicly at RAW Toronto. That experience revealed something for me about what this image was always meant to be: the luminosity of the amber and gold field intensifies on metal in a way that felt completely right. The original painting is a work in progress.
