Summary
Seed of the Woman, print is an open-edition fine art print based on the original 2017 acrylic painting by Anne Reid Artist. Luminous pink, orange, and white light rise through a deep plum-black field — a cross of light in the upper register, fire descending and expanding below. Rooted in Genesis 3:15, the work speaks to the first promise of victory: that the serpent would not have the final word over humanity, and that the Seed of the Woman would come to crush the serpent's head.
Artwork Statement
I chose orange and pink because they looked joyful to me — the colors of a floral bouquet, warm and alive. That is where the painting began. Not with darkness, not with theology. With pretty colors.
It is anything but a pretty picture.
When I was pondering what looked like drops of fire falling down in the painting, the thought came: "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven" (Luke 10:18). That stopped me. Those words point to the gap between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2 — the fall that preceded creation as we know it. And Genesis 3:15 is God's first spoken answer to that fall: the Seed of the Woman would come, and the serpent would be crushed. I prefer to suggest things rather than make them obvious, and I think the color and motion carry the meaning before the theology arrives. But the theology was already there in what I had painted.
The center of the work is not darkness. It is the promise God spoke before the battle fully unfolded in history — before the Flood, before Sinai, before the Cross. Before the battle had a name, the outcome was already declared.
Looking back now, I understand this painting as the beginning of a larger arc that includes Deluge, Golgotha, and Transfiguration. Deluge speaks to the judgment that interrupted corruption and preserved the redemptive line. Golgotha speaks to the cost of the promise — the heel bruised, the cross endured. Transfiguration reveals the promised Seed unveiled in glory. Seed of the Woman is the promise before the unveiling — the first word spoken into the conflict.
"I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel." (Genesis 3:15)

Seed of the Woman — work in progress. The colors started as a floral bouquet. The drops of fire were already there.

Color & Mood
- Dominant color: deep plum and purple-black — the surrounding field
- Central colors: hot pink, magenta, and luminous white — the cascading vertical light column
- Lower colors: ember orange and red — fire expanding outward from the base
- Accent: teal-green band left of center; gold-orange fire droplets descending upper left
- Upper register: faint white cross form above the central light — the theological anchor of the composition
- Mood: prophetic, victorious, charged, and redemptive — strong impact at a distance, layered symbolic tension on close view
- Spiritual tone: promise, conflict, breakthrough, and the victory that will not be extinguished
Design Notes
- Vertical 2:3 composition with a concentrated central axis of light rising from fire
- Cross form in the upper register anchors the theological structure of the work
- Descending gold fire droplets on the left create a secondary vertical movement within the dark field
- Orange-red expansion at the base gives the work its sense of force, heat, and earthly conflict
- Deep plum-black surround creates strong contrast — the luminous center reads boldly at a distance and deepens on closer view
- Especially powerful at large scale — the 40×60 and 48×72 in sizes command significant walls with full architectural presence
Where It Works
- Sanctuary, chapel, or worship-focused interior where the work can function as a prophetic focal point
- Gallery wall, reception area, or corridor where strong vertical energy and luminous color are welcome
- Residential space that can hold a bold spiritual statement without losing warmth or elegance
- Prayer room or intercession space where the Genesis promise needs a visual anchor
- Feature wall in an entryway, open-plan living space, or ministerial setting at statement or architectural scale

Notes from the Studio
I painted Seed of the Woman before I had the full theological framework I now carry. But looking back, the painting was already pointing toward something larger. It belongs at the beginning of a biblical arc that has since become more visible to me: Genesis 3:15 — the promise; Deluge — the line preserved; Golgotha — the cost of the promise; Transfiguration — the promised Seed unveiled in glory. Seed of the Woman is the promise before the unveiling. The center is not the serpent's opposition. The center is God's answer: the Seed who comes to crush the serpent's head and build His people.
Pairing Ideas
- Deluge, print — judgment interrupts corruption and preserves the redemptive line; the natural companion in the Genesis arc
- Golgotha, print — the cost of the promise; the heel bruised, the cross endured
- Fourth Man, print — fire, deliverance, and divine presence in the furnace
